Junction Grammar

Junction Grammar

General Description

Junction Grammar [JG] is both a theory of language and a method of representing linguistic structures. The descriptive power of JG reaches out to provide intuitive diagrams for sentences beyond the scope of conventional methods of diagramming.

In effect, JG is a state-of-the-art alternative for antiquated paradigms which lack the depth and insight required to service the needs of the Information Age — an age rooted in the convergence of language and machine.

Art And Science

Traditionally, educators have viewed language as an art — hence the prevailing concentration on language-arts. However, the scientific study of language has now come of age. To keep abreast of the times, it is imperative that students henceforth be founded in language sciences as well as language arts.

Junction Grammar provides an intuitive theoretical framework for viewing language in all its dimensions. In doing so, it provides an instructional window on syntax, semantics, morphology, phonology, and more.

The JG method of instruction opens the door to the future for language students by laying a foundation for involvement in both computational linguistics and artificial intelligence. In doing this, it does not slight the student whose primary interests are non-technical.

The Appeal of Junction Grammar

Students who abhor traditional grammar often become fascinated with JG. Because JG has its own Periodic Chart of possible structures, an intuitive order emerges from the seeming chaos of language.

A significant byproduct of the resulting order is that the morass of inconsistencies and exceptions to rules which have frustrated students in the past largely disappears for the student of Junction Grammar.

The Universality of Junction Grammar

Junction Grammar is language independent, that is, this method of language analysis and description works for any language. In fact, one very important benefit of the JG method is that it prepares students to learn foreign languages more easily.

Linguistic Technologies will provide instruction in Junction Grammar to interested parties on a contractual basis.

Additional Information about

Junction Grammar

Junction Grammar is a revolutionary linguistic theory and associated model of language structure. It provides an intuitive distinction between language-dependent and language-independent phenomena, and an inventory of possible junction patterns similar to the periodic chart of elements in chemistry.

  • Conjunctions
  • Adjunctions
  • Subjunctions

Junction theory extends itself beyond the domain of static linguistic representation into the domain of dynamic analysis, manipulation, storage, and retrieval of natural language data.

In effect, Junction Grammar provides a basis not only for explicating natural language structures (the languages of the world) but also for creating a new generation of natural language software products.
